How It Started

Beyond Good began as Madécasse, founded by Peace Corps volunteers Brett Beach and Tim McCollum in Madagascar in 2006. Reflecting on cocoa farmers’ poor bargaining power, they envisioned a new system—crafting chocolate at the source to ensure farmers kept the profits. Their mission grew, launching heirloom Criollo cocoa on the global stage and redefining ethical chocolate.

Key Milestones

  • 2006: Brett and Tim launch Madécasse after returning from Madagascar.
  • 2019: Opens Madagascar's first bean-to-bar chocolate factory, employing 105 local workers.
  • 2020: Rebranded to Beyond Good, reflecting their expanded mission and products.
  • 2025: Named one of the top five ethically transparent chocolate brands globally with a 94% ranking on the Chocolate Scorecard.

Today

Achieving milestones like "factory at origin" production in Madagascar—a rarity in the industry—Beyond Good is a catalyst for farmer empowerment and conservation. With eyes on new facilities in Uganda and continued innovation in transparency, they’re firmly building a market for chocolate that’s ethical, traceable, and delicious.
