Everybody eats. There's no question about it.

But what we eat has diversified beyond imaginable comprehension.

Between wartime eras, the advancement of pesticides, industrialized farming, globalized ingredients, regional distribution to national infrastructure normalization... breaths deep.

Our food system has been through a lot. It's no wonder that we're all yearning for simplicity.

That said, whole foods like an apple, orange, celery sticks, or a banana only go so far.

Don't we all know this from experience?

We crave the curious flavor combinations, that glorious sensation of carbonation, or the delightful crunch that comes from prepared foods.

Luckily through innovations in food science, dietary alternatives, and functional ingredients it seems we can all have our cake and eat it too!

But all this noise reminds us; it's not always the claims, labels or certifications that compel us to spend a few dollars more. It's often the stories behind the brand that makes us feel a part of something bigger, that makes us open our wallets.

We can't help but reflect on the brands that got us here. "Challengers" that have grown beyond the term to represent the potential for growth to mean more than distribution at specialty markets or mom and pop shops.

These brands aren't perfect, but you'd be hard-pressed to come by one that is. To us, they represent progress towards normalizing practices that do good for the planet, and we think you should know more about their history.

Behind the Brand - Chobani
‘Chobani’ means ‘shepherd’ in Turkish; a steadfast, constant reminder of the company’s role as a market leader yet also its self-identified responsibility to protect and guide.
More than Just Juice
Originating in 1980, three musicians (George Steltenpohl, Gerry Percy, and Bonnie Bassett) set out to change their community for the better. Their offering? Freshly pressed juice squeezed right in Steltenpohl’s California backyard. How much more modest can you get?
Something Different, Something Better
Califia Farms have a simple purpose – to nourish people without injecting artificial foods and flavors; they’ve always believed that.

Above you'll find a living list of purpose-driven food and beverage brands that have made a positive impact through food. It will grow as we continue to feature their stories moving forward.
